The Australian Government and State and Territory Governments protect you from being discriminated against on the basis of gender, marital status, religion, disability, race, colour or age.
The Human Rights & Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC) administers federal legislation covering human rights, anti-discrimination, social justice and privacy.
Australia is a signatory to the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CROC). This international convention protects children and young people up to the age of 18 years. Select ‘What are kids’ rights’ for information on the major issues covered by CROC.
State & Territory Governments also have agencies where you can get advice or lodge a complaint if you feel you have been discriminated against.
